Chat to us and share what's happening in the village!

In keeping with the times and ensure we communicate with the people of Steeple Ashton positively, we are using social media channels, as follows:

Social Media is another way of communicating with the residents of our lovely village and parish, allowing us all to positively discuss issues, find lost animals, gain information and celebrate what is great about Steeple Ashton. Please share this information to local friends and neighbours - the more that get involved, the more successful the platform.

We ask all potential members to the village group whether they live or work in the parish (or plan to, or used to!) just to keep you all safe from spammers and trolls :)

We also ask that our social media is used in a positive and proactive way that celebrates the wonderful community of Steeple Ashton.

We do not welcome any defamatory comments about individuals. Posts and comments of this nature will be removed.

We would also ask that advertising is kept to a minimum - we reserve the right to remove anything we think is not appropriate or is posted too often. It may be that we set up an offshoot of the FB group for buying and selling at some point. Let us know your views!

Please do drop us a message if you want to ask something privately. All social media is run voluntarily - we are not around all the time, but will endeavour to answer your queries as soon as we possibly can.

If you wish to comment, complain or discuss an issue which relates specifically to the Parish Council, please send it in writing to Leon Karas, our Clerk, at clerk@steeple-ashton.co.uk, or call into the office when it is open.

The Friends of Steeple Ashton Committee would like to thank all those members and villagers who attended the AGM on Friday 4th May. Following the Chairman’s report, it was announced that 3 committee members, Sue Lowery, Mar-ian Little and Anne Little, would be standing down after several years and that a Secretary and Treasurer would be required. Anne Howard has agreed to continue as Chairman. If anyone would like to become a member of the committee or to fill the above roles, please contact Lydia Peters in the first instance. Her details can be found on the Village website. After the main business of the evening, Ben Rawlings of Town and Country Pest Solutions in Trowbridge, accompanied by his wife Kirsty, gave a very interesting and entertaining talk about the use of Raptors in Pest Control. He brought along with him two of his birds, a Barn Owl called Juno and a Harris Hawk called Hank. Ben is a falconer and often uses these birds to assist in the control of pests of various kinds. He demonstrated the silent flight of the Barn Owl by encouraging Juno to fly to him above the heads of the audience and indeed not a sound was heard as she flew over us. Ben is passionate about his birds and is very happy to be able to include his hobby with his business. We all learnt a lot about these magnificent birds and from the comments heard after-wards, the talk was enjoyed by all present. After the talk, there was a cheese and wine buffet provided by the committee which was much en-joyed by all and was the perfect end to a very enjoyable evening

Grand Opening of Acreshort Park

SATURDAY 22nd SEPTEMBER 2018 2pm - 6pm

****SAVE THE DATE****

Come and celebrate with us! We will be having a GRAND OPENING of Acreshort Community Park on Saturday 22nd September 2018 at 2pm. Work will be completed on the park this summer.

The park will be opened by a villager randomly picked from your nominations - watch out for a nominations box in the shop this summer.

Bring a blanket and a picnic with you to enjoy the afternoon. We will be putting on some music, a cash bar, cream teas, raffle, skittles and local stands, as well as giving you the opportunity to shape the future of St Mary's and Newleaze, which will be our next projects!

We also want to celebrate the whole village community and the fabulous things we all do, so if you or your village group would like space for a stand to show people what you do or raise some money for your own group (no charge), or you can offer some music or other entertainment for free, please contact us asap so we can start to plan! Send an email to Pippa pippabirch@steeple-ashton.co.uk.

PLEASE CONTACT US ASAP IF:
1. You want to reserve a stand for your local group (no charge)
2. You can offer some sort of entertainment (for free please - we are a not-for-profit group!)

Successful Spring Clean!

Thank you to all 44 people and the one dog that came along to help us tidy up the village today! And also thank you to Sharon Harding, the Brownies, Guides and Rainbows for their cakes. And the merry band of peeps who set up and took down the gazebo. I think you'll all agree it's been a successful haul?! #GBSPRINGCLEAN#greatbritishspringclean#wiltshire#villagelife

Given the current very cold weather forecast for the weekend ahead, Wiltshire Council have strongly advised that all litter pick events scheduled to take place this weekend are cancelled and rescheduled for the weekend of Friday 23 to Sunday 25 March.

OUR LITTER PICK WILL NOW TAKE PLACE ON SUNDAY 25th MARCH.

The advice received from the emergency planning team at Wiltshire Council and Keep Britain Tidy is that litter pick events should not go ahead if there is any doubt about the safety of participants.

The latest information we have from the Met Office is that the recent cold weather will continue into the weekend, with day time temperatures struggling to reach zero and a significant wind chill making it feel much colder.

Snow is widely expected throughout the county on Thursday and into Friday, with widespread accumulations of 2cms and 5-10cms across higher areas. The low temperatures mean that any snow fall is likely to still be on the ground into Saturday and Sunday.

Whilst this is disappointing, we think safety of those taking part must come first at all times. We have rearranged our litter pick so we can continue to collectively clean up Wiltshire.

Please note that we haven't secured ALL funding - we are still very much seeking more funding and will be sending out sponsorship packs for local companies in the very near future!

Voting is Open - Aviva Funding for Acreshort Park!

PLEASE VOTE FOR US!

You are allowed up to 10 votes and can use them all on one project - please share with family and friends and see if we can get into the final!

We want to provide an outdoor community space in the village that is all inclusive, including activities for older children, adults and families.

We are a small group of motivated volunteers driven to see this project succeed. We have been fundraising for a while but need the injection of these extra Aviva funds to finally realise some key elements of our plan.

We have already raised the funds to create a picnic area, provided fencing and car parking, and developed a planting and maintenance schedule that has seen the field turn into a usable area.

The next phase of the plan is to provide a range of play and fitness equipment and tidy up the entrance - the equipment alone will cost us upwards of £40,000.

We plan to hold a summer celebration in 2018 to officially open the park and new equipment, as well as providing a springboard to start our future plans - including nature trails, BBQ area, community building, group fitness events and anything else our lovely villagers feel the need for, in a beautiful outdoor setting that is to become the focus for the health & wellbeing of the village.

Please help us realise the next phase of our plans!

Should you see posters that are out of date, please do not hesitate to remove them, along with any of the annoying little paper corners that are left too! Please leave alone any posters that are still in date and legible. If you are unsure, then please contact us on Facebook or via the Clerk's email address or telephone and we will send a Parish Councillor to have a look. The more residents that join in, the tidier things will be - the Parish Council are but few!
