  • Tesco Bags of Help - ACRESHORT PARK NEEDS YOU!

GREAT NEWS!     Thanks to Liz Halliwell (previous Parish Councillor), we have been successful in applying for Tesco's 'Bags of Help' scheme to raise money for play equipment in Acreshort Park. To make it work, we need YOU to shop in Tesco and collect the tokens at the checkout - you then pop them in the relevant plastic box on the way out.  Tesco says: To vote, you will need to make a purchase within store of any value. You will receive one token per transaction and it's ...

Grand Opening of Acreshort Park

SATURDAY 22nd SETPEMBER 2018 2pm - 6pm

Come and celebrate with us! We will be having a GRAND OPENING of Acreshort Community Park on Saturday 22nd September 2018 at 2pm. Work will be completed on the park this summer.

The park will be opened by a villager randomly picked from your nominations - watch out for a nominations box in the shop this summer.

Bring a blanket and a picnic with you to enjoy the afternoon. We will be putting on some music, a cash bar, cream teas, raffle, skittles and local stands, as well as giving you the opportunity to shape the future of St Mary's and Newleaze, which will be our next projects!

We also want to celebrate the whole village community and the fabulous things we all do, so if you or your village group would like space for a stand to show people what you do or raise some money for your own group (no charge), or you can offer some music or other entertainment for free, please contact us asap so we can start to plan! Send an email to Pippa

1. You want to reserve a stand for your local group (no charge)
2. You can offer some sort of entertainment (for free please - we are a not-for-profit group!)

Given the current very cold weather forecast for the weekend ahead, Wiltshire Council have strongly advised that all litter pick events scheduled to take place this weekend are cancelled and rescheduled for the weekend of Friday 23 to Sunday 25 March.

The advice received from the emergency planning team at Wiltshire Council and Keep Britain Tidy is that litter pick events should not go ahead if there is any doubt about the safety of participants.

The latest information we have from the Met Office is that the recent cold weather will continue into the weekend, with day time temperatures struggling to reach zero and a significant wind chill making it feel much colder.

Snow is widely expected throughout the county on Thursday and into Friday, with widespread accumulations of 2cms and 5-10cms across higher areas. The low temperatures mean that any snow fall is likely to still be on the ground into Saturday and Sunday.

Whilst this is disappointing, we think safety of those taking part must come first at all times. We have rearranged our litter pick so we can continue to collectively clean up Wiltshire.

Voting is Open - Aviva Funding for Acreshort Park!

You are allowed up to 10 votes and can use them all on one project - please share with family and friends and see if we can get into the final!

We want to provide an outdoor community space in the village that is all inclusive, including activities for older children, adults and families.

We are a small group of motivated volunteers driven to see this project succeed. We have been fundraising for a while but need the injection of these extra Aviva funds to finally realise some key elements of our plan.

We have already raised the funds to create a picnic area, provided fencing and car parking, and developed a planting and maintenance schedule that has seen the field turn into a usable area.

The next phase of the plan is to provide a range of play and fitness equipment and tidy up the entrance - the equipment alone will cost us upwards of £40,000.

We plan to hold a summer celebration in 2018 to officially open the park and new equipment, as well as providing a springboard to start our future plans - including nature trails, BBQ area, community building, group fitness events and anything else our lovely villagers feel the need for, in a beautiful outdoor setting that is to become the focus for the health & wellbeing of the village.

Please help us realise the next phase of our plans!

Spotted a problem around the parish?

You can use My Wiltshire to contact the council

The more we report, the more Wiltshire will recognise the significance of the work needed by Steeple Ashton Parish and ensure that the Parish Steward, and others, provide Steeple Ashton with a fair share of the available effort.

If you register for an account you will receive updates on your report's progress. These are just some of the issues you can report using My Wiltshire:

  • Highways and Street Scene issues
  • Environmental Enforcement
  • Trading Standards
  • Car parks
  • Weather emergencies
  • Waste
  • Fraud

My Wiltshire is also available as an app. You'll have access to all the functionality of the web browser version, but in the palm of your hand; plus the ability to attach photos and GPS locations to your reports. The My Wiltshire mobile app is available for Apple, Android and Microsoft devices.

A cloudy but warm Saturday 24th June 2017 saw many villagers attend the annual Church Fete at The Lodge. Visitors were provided with a coconut shy, bouncy castle, tombolas, raffles, refreshments, book stall, cake stall (sold out almost immediately!) refreshments and ice cream cones. They were also entertained by a local band, who got everybody's feet tapping :)

Over 700 vistors attended the Open Gardens event on Sunday 4th June 2017, raising over £5000. In spite of the soggy weather, each of the 15 gardens looked absolutely glorious - a real testament to the hard work put in over the last few months.

A message from our Police and Crime Commisioner...

I have today begun a public consultation on the cost of policing in 2015-16.  I am considering an increase of £3.06 per year, or 6p per week, for the average home (Band D property).  The increase is to help reduce the impact of significant central government grant reductions on policing and crime services in Wiltshire and Swindon.
The consultation is now open and runs until Wednesday 4th February 2015.  I have approached every Area Board and Locality that are meeting during this period and asked for the opportunity to make a presentation about my proposal.  A copy of this presentation is available on my website ( along with further information.
I would encourage you to give your feedback on my proposal and to promote this consultation amongst your community.  Feedback can be given through my website or by following this link:
Yours sincerely
